It's a very long vertical route that bridges Blackthorn City and New Bark Town. Because Blackthorn City is in the mountain, Route 4. While the main objective is to simply head south and there are few twists and turns along the way, there are three different paths from the start: left, mid- right and right. The paths merge and interwine multiple times so feel free to wander around a bit. The Blackthorn entrance to Dark Cave is also found at the top of the left path. Route 4. 5 has several new Pokemon, including two sets of version- exclusives. Complete your And Also The Trees record collection. It was a rare occasion when the band made a calculated.Heart. Gold players will find Gligar and Phanpy. Gligar is a Ground/Flying- type scorpion that evolves into one of the better Physical tanks in the game; Phanpy is a Ground- type elephant who evolves into Donphan, a Physically sturdy Rapid Spinner. Either Pokemon is a good choice if you need a Ground- type, although the item needed to evolve Gligar into Gliscor must be won at the Battle Frontier. Soul. Silver players will encounter the Steel/Flying- type Skarmory, Pokemon's premier Physical tank, as well as Normal- type bear Teddiursa, whose evolution Ursaring is decently powerful Physical Normal- type. The left path has the most tall grass but only one Hiker with an Onix; it also has an Elixir, a Nugget, a Full Heal and a Revive in plain sight as well as a hidden PP Up just left of the overflow of the stream in the middle of the route. The mid- right path probably has the least encounters, with little tall grass and only two Trainers: a Hiker with two Machop and Graveler and a Hiker with a Diglett and Dugtrio. The right path has the most trainers, with four total: a male Ace Trainer with a Pidgeot and an Electabuzz, a female Ace Trainer with a Marill and two Wartortle, a Karate Guy with a Machoke, and a Hiker with the three members of the Geodude family. Eventually, the right paths will merge into one and terminate at a pond near a Max Potion and a Green Apricorn tree. Head west into Route 4. The left path ends immediately east of it as well. If you recall, Route 4. Route 2. 9. This is the other end of the Route, which includes an entrance to the other side of the Violet City half of Dark Cave. Yellow and Green Apricorn trees are through some trees just near the Dark Cave entrance. Now head south; after a ledge, you'll see a split in the path. Jumping across the left ledge leads to a Camper who uses a Mankey and a Picnicker who has a Ponyta and an Oddish; you can engage them in a tag battle if timed properly, but they have laughably weak Pokemon either way. Pickup the X Speed on the ground near them. The lower ledge leads to a Hiker with five weak Geodude. Regardless of path, continue south into the lower end of Route 4. New Bark Town from there. If you try to Surf into Route 2. Professor Elm. When you enter Elm's lab, your friend will congratulate you on winning the eight badges of Johto and Professor Elm will give you a Master Ball, which will catch one wild Pokemon without fail. Professor Elm will also ask you to visit the Kimono Girls' theater in Ecruteak City. Because your friend won't let you continue into Kanto before visiting them, fly or walk back to Ecruteak City. Before you enter the theater, heal and make sure the first Pokemon in your team is a strong one, because it's time to fight the Kimono Girls. Each Kimono Girl uses one of the Eeveelutions that existed during Generation II, but their Pokemon are now Level 3. Like the Winstrate family in RSE, you will have to fight each Kimono Girl in rapid succession without being able to heal in- between. When you try to enter the theater, you'll bump into your Rival, who just got defeated by the Girls. When you're ready, head inside to challenge them. First is Umbreon, a Dark- type wall with below average offense. It has Psychic- type immunity, so use Fighting- or Bug- type or your strongest STAB attacks. Next up, Psychic- type Espeon has good Speed and Special Attack, but it's rather fragile and easy to take down. The joke of the Eevee family, Fire- type Flareon, follows; it's slow and has poor Defense, so use Water- , Ground- or Rock- type attacks. Like Espeon, Jolteon specializes in Speed and Special Attack at the expense of its durability, so use Physical attacks, particularly from a Ground- type. Finally, Vaporeon is a Special tank that loses against Electric- or Grass- types, although the latter should beware its Aurora Beam. Each Pokemon knows Last Resort and its best Special STAB move (Dark Pulse, Psychic, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, Surf). Many will try to annoy you (Umbreon's Confuse Ray, Flareon's Will- o- Wisp, Jolteon's Double Team and Thunder Wave), but use type advantages and you should win. After defeating the Kimono Girls, you will earn the Clear Bell in Heart. Gold or the Tidal Bell in Soul. Silver. When combined with the Rainbow or Silver Wings, these items can be used to summon Ho- oh and Lugia respectively. A little girl will enter the theater and the sisters will depart for Bell Tower (Heart. Gold) or Whirl Islands (Soul. Silver). Bring some Ultra Balls, Repels, Escape Ropes and a high- level Pokemon that knows a sleep- inducing move, and follow them to their destination; Heart. Gold players can simply walk to Bell Tower at the north part of town. If you're playing Soul. Silver, you must bring along Pokemon that know Surf and Whirlpool; Flash and Strength might come in handy, but are not needed to progress the game. Head to Route 4. 0, located west of Olivine City, and Surf south to find the Whirl Islands. Heart. Gold Players: Click here for the Bell Tower walkthrough. Soul. Silver Players: Click here for the Whirl Islands walkthrough. Since you've defeated Morty, the monk in the shrine will let you pass; head through to reach Bell Tower. Once inside, you'll show the monk on the first floor your Rainbow Wing to gain access to the upper levels. You might want to bring some Repels; the upper floors have wild Rattata (or, at night, Gastly) that, while weak, become very annoying while trying to navigate through the Tower. On the second floor, head straight down to the next ladder to reach the third floor, where you'll find one of Bell Tower's features: small platforms that you need to jump over. Cross the gap to your left and back again for a Full Heal, and then go right and follow the path to the ladder in the top- right corner of this floor. Note that there's another, hidden gapped platform to hop across located behind the swaying pillar in the center of the room. On the fourth floor, hop over the platform to the south, and then go immediately left and continue through for an Ultra Ball. Beyond the Ultra Ball is another gap that leads to a dead- end ladder and a PP Up. From here, go left to find another dead- end ladder and an Escape Rope. To reach the fifth floor from here, continue north to the ladder in the top- left corner of the room. Once upstairs, hug the northern perimeter until you see a south- facing gap. Jump across this and then go left. Don't jump back across to the starting ladder; go south until the path splits. You'll want to take the right path (left path from your character's perspective); the ladder upstairs is your destination. If you have some time, you can cross the gap that leads to the center of the room for a Rare Candy and then go to the ladder in the bottom- right corner of the room to retrace your steps from the fourth floor. A Max Potion is straight ahead on the sixth floor; after that, cross the bridge to your right and keep north. Take the upper bridge to find another Full Heal and jump down to reach the ladder to the seventh floor. To add to your confusion, the next three floors add golden warp tiles to the mix. If you don't care about items, skip the rest of this paragraph; otherwise, the warp tile you see leads to the eighth floor briefly, and then the ninth. Once here, there's yet another split in the path so take the upper path and jump left across three gaps. You have two choices here: left or down. Going left leads to a warp tile that brings you to a Max Elixir in the center of the eighth floor. Going down and immediately left leads a warp tile that brings you to a Nugget. After getting these items, backtrack to that first warp tile on the seventh floor. From the first warp tile on the seventh floor, cross the path of gaps in the floor to the right and you'll see a Max Revive in the top- right corner of the room. Proceed straight down from here to find a warp tile to the eighth floor, and go immediately south to the next warp tile to the ninth floor. There's one path here, so grab the HP Up behind the swaying pillar and then go through the next warp to the west. You'll end up back on the eighth floor. The tile is to the northwest, and beyond it is a bridge leading to a Full Restore. Take the warp tile, which brings you to the ninth floor, and then go through the ladder to emerge on the tenth floor. The tenth floor has nothing of interest, so continue ahead to the roof of Bell Tower. The Kimono Girls will be waiting for you on the roof and, using the Clear Bell, they will perform a dance that summons Ho- oh from the skies above. Ho- oh will appear from a ball of fire in the sky, swoop around the Tower and then roost at the base of the flame statue and let out its cry. The lead Kimono Girl will marvel at Ho- oh and prompt you to speak to it. This is your only chance to capture Heart. Gold's mascot, so save your game NOW. Hopefully, you also brought some Ultra Balls and a Pokemon that knows a sleep- inducing move. Ho- oh. Ho- oh is a Fire/Flying- type with one of the highest overall stat totals in the game; in particular, it has incredible Special Defense and above average HP, Attack and Special Attack, making it an offensive threat that can also sponge Special attacks.
